The Skills4Life project (2021- 2023) is an Erasmus+ project which focuses on young offenders’ personal development so that they are provided the opportunity for personal self-growth, gain a sense of direction and prepare for transition back into the community.
About us
The Skills4Life project focuses on young offenders’ personal development and tries to make provisions so that they are provided the opportunity for personal self-growth and self-development during their life course, so as to gain a sense of direction and prepare for release. The project aims to develop a holistic learning programme that helps young people in custody develop a new non-criminal identity.
The Skills4Life project serves a dual purpose:
[a]. to frame a new context in which young offenders may shed off “offending identities” and negotiate new, prosocial non-criminal identities and pathways for their lives,
[b]. to provide them the tools to put their lives back on track after release.
The project proposes the development of a holistic learning programme, which will take into account the needs of the individual – emotional, psychological and social needs – so that they can develop and achieve empowerment and independence.
The Skills4Life includes:
- research activities on existing initiatives supporting young offenders as well as on their needs regarding the development of life skills to support their lives after release
- educational content development activities, which include the development of the educational curriculum for young offenders, the trainer’s guide and the students’ handbook
- training activities, when the Skills4Life Workshops will be organized in prisons and custodial settings in the four participating countries.
It is expected that a total of eight (8) prisons throughout Europe will test and pilot the Skills4Life approach, while a total of eighty (80) young offenders are expected to participate and benefit from the project’s research and training activities.
